This week’s presidential outcome represents something much more important than a political affiliation coming out on top.
I am not a political person. I never have been. What I care about is people, and happiness. I care about peace. I care about community. I care about safety, for all humans.
For me, the red on the map that tracked the presidential election did not represent a Republican presidential candidate. It represented blatant racism, sexism and senseless hate based on differences and ‘the old way’ of doing things. The blue represented hope for putting that ‘old way’ to sleep. The blue represented the people in this country who hope to put their values and morals above their finances and political party affiliation. It represented a population of humans who was done with the drama and isms of our last leader.
Today was a win for some of us, and a loss for others. But the important part, and I hope that at least some of you can see this, is that we voted out the blatant hate and disenfranchisement of the BIPOC community that our last president exemplified. To me that is the most important win.
Let hate end. Let violence end. Let us come together and move forward into these next four years as a nation that is willing to learn how to be a safe, inclusive and supportive for ALL people. We have a long way to go.
Our next president is still a male. He is still white. He does not represent the beautiful diversity of this nation. He does not represent the women of this nation. However, he DOES represent all of the people who are no longer willing to put up with blatant hatred, blatant judgment and blatant cruelty. We voted out our old president because we refused his ‘values’.
Let this be a new era of effort for the inclusion and empowerment of ALL of the people of our nation.
Do not go back to sleep.
